Long Beach Celebrates Older Americans Month with a Vibrant Schedule of Free Activities
LONG BEACH, CA — This May, in honor of Older Americans Month, the Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) department is rolling out an exciting array of free programs tailored for residents aged 50 and older. Mayor Rex Richardson emphasized the city’s commitment to celebrating the invaluable contributions of its older adult community while providing opportunities for enhanced wellness and social connections.
“Older Americans Month is a time to recognize the incredible impact our seniors have on our community,” Mayor Richardson stated. “We are dedicated to supporting them with enriching activities that promote health, creativity, and camaraderie.”
The Long Beach City Council will officially recognize Older Americans Month during its meeting on May 13, setting the stage for a month filled with engaging events designed to foster community spirit and well-being among older adults.
A Month of Activities
From dancing and crafts to cultural celebrations and friendly competitions, PRM has curated a diverse lineup of activities. Some highlights include:

May 7: Senior Safety Summit at Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave.)

May 21: Sunset Rodeo Dance and Dinner at Expo Arts Center (4321 Atlantic Ave.)

In addition to these featured events, the month will also include movie nights, a community carnival, and cultural programs celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month—many of which do not require registration and are open to all older adults.
