Malaysia to Host Inaugural MATTA Malaysia Pickleball Grand Slam 2025

The inaugural MATTA Malaysia Pickleball Grand Slam 2025 (MPG2025) is set to take place in Sarawak from October 7 to 20, 2025, making history as Malaysia’s first-ever pickleball grand slam event. With a total prize pool of RM100,000, the tournament is expected to attract top-tier talent from Malaysia and abroad, positioning Malaysia as a key sports tourism destination.

The tournament, organized by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), will be held at PIKABOL in Kuching and is anticipated to draw in 1,350 participants and over 2,600 visitors in total. Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah emphasized the significance of the event, stating that it will inspire more Malaysians to take up the sport.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew highlighted the growing popularity of pickleball in Sarawak, with cities like Miri playing a key role in its development. The sport has been gaining traction across Malaysia, with active participation in various divisions and increasing popularity nationwide.

Endorsed by various pickleball associations and supported by government ministries, MPG2025 will feature multiple competitive categories catering to different skill levels and age groups. The event aims to not only promote pickleball but also boost the local economy by providing economic benefits to Sarawak’s tourism and hospitality sectors.

With its record-breaking prize pool and international participation, MPG2025 is poised to elevate Malaysia’s status in the global pickleball community. The event announcement was attended by key officials and stakeholders, signaling a promising future for pickleball in Malaysia and the growth of sports tourism in the region.
