Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, Bandar Kuching MP and youth advocate, has been appointed as an advisor to the Malaysia Pickleball Association (MPA) to help promote and develop pickleball as a mainstream sport nationwide. In this role, Yii will provide strategic guidance on governance and policy to align the sport with international standards and support sustainable growth, particularly focusing on grassroots development. His appointment coincides with a surge in pickleball’s popularity in Malaysia, highlighted by over 40,000 monthly court bookings in Klang Valley and more than 150,000 weekly active players tracked by the Reclub app.

The MPA, under renewed leadership and in collaboration with government ministries, aims to integrate pickleball into Malaysia’s national sports framework and multi-sport events, creating new opportunities for athletes. Plans include nationwide programs targeting schools, communities, and sports clubs to foster interest and talent development. Yii’s involvement is expected to enhance the association’s ability to engage stakeholders and solidify pickleball’s status as a recognized and celebrated sport across Malaysia.
