River City Pickleball Club to Host Regional Tournament Week with Nearly 350 Participants

The River City Pickleball Club is gearing up to host a 4-day regional tournament week, bringing together nearly 350 participants from various states. The event, set to take place at Merchant Centre Court on Bittel Road, promises exciting matches and a chance for the public to learn more about the rapidly growing sport of pickleball.

Starting on Thursday and running through Sunday, the tournament will feature different divisions each day, catering to players of all ages and skill levels. From senior players to men’s and women’s matches, the event will showcase the diverse talent within the pickleball community.

David Ryan, a founding board member of the club and an avid player, highlighted the social aspect of pickleball, emphasizing the camaraderie and friendships that form on and off the court. With 16 games happening simultaneously, spectators can enjoy the action from the ideal viewing spot at Centre Court.

In addition to the thrilling matches, the tournament will also feature food trucks, vendors selling pickleball equipment, and opportunities for open play. Ryan encouraged the community to come out and support the event, even if they’re not participating in the tournament.

Pickleball, a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, continues to gain popularity in Owensboro. The River City Pickleball Club’s collaboration with the City of Owensboro to develop new courts at Ben Hawes Park is a testament to the sport’s growing presence in the area.
