Battle of the Badges Pickleball Tournament Benefiting “Shop with a Cop” Program

The Imperial Valley Pickleball Association, along with Pickleball Ambassador Antonia Mendez, is gearing up to host the first-ever Battle of the Badges Tournament on November 16 at Southwest High School in El Centro. This exciting event will bring together members of law enforcement, firefighters, and active and retired military for a day of friendly competition on the pickleball courts.

The tournament is open to all members of law enforcement, active or retired military, first responders, and firefighters. Civilians are also welcome to participate if paired with someone with a badge. The registration fee is $40.00, and those interested can contact Antonia “Blanca” Mendez at 760-222-6954 to sign up. Additionally, sponsors and prize donations for the raffle table are still being accepted.

All net proceeds from the tournament will benefit the annual “Shop with a Cop” program, which provides underprivileged children with a fun day of shopping and positive interactions with law enforcement officers during the holiday season. This event aims to create lasting memories for the children and foster positive relationships between the community and law enforcement.

Pickleball has quickly become America’s fastest-growing sport, with millions of players across the country. In the Imperial Valley alone, there are approximately 170 players, with numbers expected to grow as the sport gains popularity. The Imperial Valley Pickleball Association is working to expand access to courts in the area and promote the many health benefits of playing pickleball, such as cardiovascular health, improved balance, and stress management.

The IVPA is now a non-profit organization and plans to write grants and hold fundraisers to refurbish courts in Brawley. The association’s goal is to provide more opportunities for community members of all ages to enjoy the sport and reap its numerous benefits.

Don’t miss out on this exciting event on November 16! For more information, contact Antonia Mendez at 760-222-6954. Let’s come together to support a great cause and have a blast on the pickleball courts.
