Pickleball Events Making a Splash in India: A Look at the Growing Market and Sponsorship Opportunities

Pickleball, a sport that has been gaining popularity in India, is set to take the country by storm with a series of upcoming events and tournaments. The World Pickleball League (WPBL) and the Indian Open League, Pro, and Challenger Leagues are all scheduled to kick off in Mumbai in the coming months, showcasing the growing interest in the sport.

According to the All-India Pickleball Association (AIPA), India is home to over 1 lakh recreational pickleball players and 10,000 competitive players, making it the second-largest pickleball market globally after the US. With such a large player base, brands are eager to get involved in the sport. Sponsors like Skechers, ITC Bingo, and DCB Bank have already shown their support for pickleball events in India.

The sponsorship fees for players representing India at international tournaments are substantial, and brands like Swiggy and PNG Jewellers are also getting in on the action. Sony Entertainment Talent Ventures India and Natekar Sports and Gaming have committed a significant investment in the WPBL, indicating the potential for growth in the sport.

The AIPA estimates that the number of pickleball players in India could reach 10 lakhs in the next five years, with the sport gaining popularity not only in major cities but also in smaller towns. Advertisers are focusing on supporting local events and tournaments to increase brand visibility and attract more players to the sport.

While pickleball sponsorship fees may not yet be on par with established sports leagues, the potential for growth is evident. With the right support from the sports ministry and prominent broadcasters, pickleball has the opportunity to become a mainstream sport in India, attracting more brands and funding to elevate the sport to new heights.
