Lisa Spinale: Paving the Way for Pickleball in Marblehead

Marblehead Resident Lisa Spinale Named First USA Pickleball Ambassador

Marblehead, MA – Lisa Spinale has been appointed as the first-ever USA pickleball ambassador for Marblehead. Spinale, who started playing pickleball in 2019, has been a strong advocate for the sport in town, pushing for more courts and playing time for residents. She is also actively involved in running the nonprofit organization Marblehead Pickleball.

In a recent interview with the Current, Spinale shared her journey with pickleball and the impact it has had on her life. She first discovered the sport in 2019 when a friend introduced her to indoor pickleball at the COA. Since then, she has been hooked on the game and has been playing daily.

During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, pickleball became a source of solace for Spinale and a small group of players in the community. They set up a portable net outdoors and continued to play, providing a safe and social outlet for physical activity and connection.

Spinale emphasized the social benefits of pickleball, highlighting how the sport has brought together people of all ages in Marblehead. She noted that pickleball has fostered new friendships and a sense of community among players, creating a unique camaraderie on and off the court.

As the newly appointed ambassador, Spinale is dedicated to promoting pickleball in Marblehead and working with residents and the town to build programs and facilities for the sport. She encourages new players to join Marblehead Pickleball and take advantage of the resources available to learn and play the game.

With Spinale’s leadership and passion for pickleball, Marblehead is poised to become a hub for the sport, with opportunities for players of all ages to engage and connect through this growing activity. Spinale’s vision for the future includes the possibility of pickleball becoming a high school varsity and JV sport in Marblehead, further solidifying the sport’s place in the community.
