Former double Asian Games gold medalist Gaurav Natekar, in collaboration with Sony Entertainment Talent Ventures India (SETVI), has announced the launch of the World Pickleball League (WPBL).

This marks the first-ever professional pickleball league and is set to elevate India’s status as a racquet sports hub.

The WPBL will feature six franchises competing for the title, with each team comprising five to eight players, including international stars. The league will also emphasize the inclusion of Indian players and junior players to provide them with the opportunity to learn from the best in the world.

Pickleball, a sport played in over 80 countries, has been gaining popularity in India, with over 30,000 amateur players and 8000 registered players across 18 states. Known for its accessibility and appeal to a wide age range, from seven to 70, pickleball has become a favorite recreational and competitive sport globally.

The launch of the World Pickleball League is expected to further boost the growth of the sport in India and provide a platform for players to showcase their skills on an international stage. With the backing of experienced professionals like Gaurav Natekar and SETVI, the league is poised to make a significant impact on the pickleball community.
