The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Sports Authority of India, has begun selection trials at its Centre of Excellence in Ahmedabad to form India’s first official pickleball team. Over 140 players from across the country are competing over two days (August 30–31) to represent India at the second Pickleball World Cup, scheduled in Florida, USA, from October 27 to November 2, 2025. The trials cover three categories: Under-16, Open, and 50+, with players being selected for singles and doubles events.
This milestone marks India’s transition from an emerging pickleball nation to officially fielding a national team on the global stage, coinciding with National Sports Day celebrations. The inaugural World Cup in Lima, Peru, saw participation from over 500 players worldwide, and India’s involvement is expected to boost the sport’s growth domestically. Selected players on the first day include Aman Patel (Men’s Singles), Amrita Mukherjee (Women’s Singles), and others, with remaining trials for U-16 boys and 50+ categories continuing on August 31.
