The inaugural State Games of Tennessee, hosted in Jackson over two weekends in June, featured a dozen sports for all ages and overcame early weather challenges to deliver a successful event. The opening ceremony included a parade and cauldron lighting by local mayors, setting a festive tone. Athletes like Kevin and Ayla McCants traveled from Smyrna to compete in track and field, praising the smooth organization and expressing excitement for the event’s future growth. Volunteers, such as Johnathon Chung who led pickleball activities, emphasized hospitality and inclusivity, with plans to introduce ADA-compliant tournaments next year.
Local participant Renae Adelsberger excelled in pickleball, winning three gold medals and earning a spot at the 2026 State Games of America. The event offered a family-friendly atmosphere and opportunities for community engagement through various sports including youth baseball, softball, volleyball, disc golf, and running events. Medalists have the chance to advance to national competition, highlighting the State Games as both a competitive and unifying experience for Tennesseans.
