Newport News Police Department Hosts First-Ever Pickleball Camp
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) recently made a unique addition to its summer camp offerings with the introduction of a Pickleball Camp. The camp, which concluded last Thursday, provided local youth with the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the popular sport while also building positive connections with law enforcement.
Throughout the weeklong camp, participants were taught basic Pickleball skills as well as more advanced techniques like the 3rd Shot Drop. What set this camp apart was the chance for campers to turn the tables and teach NNPD police recruits how to play the game, creating a fun and interactive learning environment for all involved.
The camp culminated in a Round Robin Tournament, where two standout campers emerged as the top players, showcasing their newly acquired skills. The Newport News Police Foundation, Kiln Creek Golf Club and Resort, and the NNPD’s Community Youth Outreach Division played key roles in organizing and supporting the camp, ensuring its success.
“We’re thrilled to have introduced Pickleball to our summer camps,” said the NNPD in a statement, expressing gratitude to all those involved in making the event possible. The department looks forward to continuing to offer unique and engaging community-building initiatives in the future.
