Raleigh County High School Students Host Pickleball Tournament Fundraiser
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Juniors and seniors from Raleigh County high schools came together to host a unique and fun event over the weekend. The students, who are part of the Susan Landis Youth Philanthropists (SLYP), organized the “Hey Y’all It’s Pickleball” tournament as a fundraiser.
Brandon Bennett, the SLYP Coordinator for the Beckley Area Foundation, shared that the money raised from the tournament will be donated to a non-profit chosen by the students. This event served as a valuable learning experience for the students, allowing them to understand the intricacies of grants and philanthropy.
“These students are the future of Raleigh County. They want to see our county succeed and become the best in the United States. They are motivated to make a difference and have a positive impact,” said Bennett.
Participants from various Raleigh County high schools, including Liberty, Woodrow Wilson, Independence, Shady Spring, and Greater Beckley Christian School, as well as homeschoolers, took part in the tournament. The entry fee was $20 per person or $40 for a team.
