Hadley Pickleball & Recreation Center Plans Moving Forward
Hadley Town Hall could soon be home to a new outdoor recreation center, featuring pickleball courts and a basketball court. The project has received approvals from the Select Board and School Committee, paving the way for potential construction on land near Hopkins Academy.
The proposed Hadley Pickleball & Recreation Center would offer up to four pickleball courts and a full-size basketball court, providing a new outdoor space for residents of all ages to enjoy. Park and Recreation Committee Chairman Jim Shea highlighted the need for such a facility, noting the popularity of pickleball in the area.
With an estimated cost of $323,630 for the facility, including Sport Court tile surfaces and other improvements, the project is still in the planning stages. Park and Recreation Director Amy Jennings emphasized the importance of coordinating with other ongoing projects, such as the geothermal project at Hopkins Academy.
The approval from both committees is seen as a positive step towards providing more recreational opportunities for the community. Shea expressed his commitment to ensuring there are ample activities for children in town, with the new center catering to older kids, adults, and seniors alike.
In addition to pickleball and basketball, there is potential for the center to be used year-round, with the option to create an ice skating rink. Solar lights and electrical service from nearby structures could further enhance the facility’s usability.
While there are concerns about nonresidents utilizing the courts, Shea pointed out that Hadley residents already participate in activities outside of town. The project aims to provide a space for the community to come together and enjoy outdoor recreation in a beautiful setting.
As plans for the Hadley Pickleball & Recreation Center progress, residents can look forward to a new space for active and social engagement. The project represents a collaborative effort to enhance the town’s recreational offerings and create a welcoming environment for all.
