Grand Opening of New Pickleball Courts at West Shore Parks & Recreation
COLWOOD, BC — June 9, 2025 — The vibrant west shore community is gearing up for an exciting celebration as West Shore Parks & Recreation (WSPR) unveils its brand-new pickleball courts on Friday, June 13, at 10 AM. This eagerly anticipated event promises to be a highlight for both casual players and competitive enthusiasts alike.
The new facility features six state-of-the-art courts, designed to accommodate the growing popularity of pickleball, one of Canada’s fastest-growing sports. “These new courts offer a fun and inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, fostering connections and contributing to the overall health and well-being of our community,” said Kimberley Guiry, Chair of the West Shore Parks & Recreation Society Board.
Located at 1767 Island Highway (Highway 14) in Colwood, WSPR is owned by five municipalities: Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Highlands, and Metchosin. The addition of these courts comes in response to strong community demand for more recreational opportunities.
Court Features and Booking Information
The new pickleball courts boast lower fences for enhanced spectator views, expanded picnic areas, and options for both reserved and drop-in play. Courts 1–4 can be reserved online for $16 per 2-hour session, while Courts 5 and 6 are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Reservations can be made through the WSPR website, either on the same day or up to one week in advance.
Grand Opening Festivities
The grand opening will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, light refreshments, and exhibition matches showcasing local pickleball talent. Municipal mayors, counselors, and recreation staff will be present to welcome guests and share insights about the new facility.
“West Shore Parks and Recreation is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our growing communities and provide accessible recreation for everyone,” the facility stated in a recent release.
Upcoming Tournament: Paddle Royale
Mark your calendars for July 5, when WSPR will host its inaugural “Paddle Royale” Pickleball Tournament. This fun-focused event aims to bring together beginner to intermediate players for a day filled with spirited matches and community camaraderie. The tournament will feature men’s and women’s divisions for various skill levels, ensuring an inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
