Grand Mesa Pickleball (GMP) Leap Year Tournament Results and Organization Update

The Grand Mesa Pickleball (GMP) organization recently held their Leap Year Tournament, where three teams were recognized for their outstanding performance. The “Holm Sweet Holm” team, consisting of Carl and LeAnn Holm, took home first place honors, showcasing their skills on the court. In second place was the “Double Trouble” team, made up of Sharon Harley and Rich Garrett, who put up a tough fight throughout the tournament. Rounding out the top three was the “L&L Midcourt Crisis” team, comprised of Lori Hamm and Larry Traubel, who displayed great sportsmanship and talent.

The tournament was organized by Susan Wilmot, with Maxine Behrman and Lorrie Martin serving as referees during the finals. Judy Fairchild and Pam Cooper were responsible for keeping scores, while Ms. Fairchild, Deb Foreman, and Ron Black provided treat bags for all participants.

The GMP organization, which has a roster of 84 members, regularly meets for friendly competition on spacious indoor courts at Cedaredge’s New Hope Evangelical Free Church. The board of directors includes Carl Holm as president, Judy Weaver as vice president, Coni Wolfe as treasurer, Carolyn Payne as secretary, and members at large Sharon Harley, Linda Lichtendahl, and Syndi Scott. Judy Fairchild also teaches beginner lessons for those looking to improve their skills.

As a nonprofit organization, GMP’s mission is to support pickleball in the Surface Creek area for all ages and levels. Membership is required to participate in scheduled play or events, and the group is actively working towards establishing outdoor facilities in the area to support future tournaments. Donations towards this effort are welcomed and tax deductible.

Looking ahead, the group’s March schedule includes open play, beginner lessons, and a Sweet 16 Round Robin Tournament on March 28.
