Gen Z, comprising a significant portion of India’s population with a median age of 28.8 years in 2025, is emerging as a major consumer group in the fitness sector. This generation is notably more health-conscious and active than previous ones, engaging enthusiastically in diverse physical activities. They prefer mixing workout formats, with 91% practicing three different types and 83% visiting multiple fitness centers monthly. Their motivations for fitness vary widely—from aesthetics and mental health to social connection and community engagement—highlighting a shift towards immersive, social, and dynamic fitness experiences such as running clubs, group classes, and emerging sports like pickleball.

Strength training and pilates are gaining popularity among Gen Z, who value functional fitness and athleticism over traditional notions of muscle building. Cardio remains a common starting point, with a preference for shorter, manageable race distances like 5km and 10km. This generation seeks fitness experiences that are exciting, social, and varied, avoiding monotonous or overly technical routines. Overall, Gen Z’s fitness choices reflect their desire for active lifestyles that combine health benefits with social interaction and personal expression.
