Exciting Developments in St. Charles: Whole Foods and Montauk Pickleball Club Secure Liquor Licenses

St. Charles, IL — The anticipation is building in St. Charles as two highly awaited developments have recently received crucial approvals from the city council. At the May 5 meeting, Whole Foods Market and Montauk Pickleball Club were granted liquor licenses, marking significant milestones in their respective projects.

Whole Foods is currently undergoing renovations at the former Blue Goose Market location, situated at 300 S. Second St. The store is expected to open its doors by July, with the company’s website hinting at an “early summer” launch. As of May 11, the grocer has listed 46 open positions for the new location, signaling a robust hiring effort to prepare for the grand opening. The store has been approved for an A-2 liquor license, allowing for the sale of packaged alcohol for off-site consumption.

Meanwhile, Montauk Pickleball Club, part of the ambitious Fox Haven Square development at 100 N. Kirk Road, has also secured a B-3 liquor license along with a late-night permit, enabling the sale and consumption of alcohol until 2 a.m. This vibrant new venue is set to feature an indoor pickleball complex, bocce, duckpin bowling, and a restaurant and bar designed for sports broadcasting.

Fox Haven Square, developed by Bartlett-based Greco Investment Management, is set to transform the east side of St. Charles. The project will encompass four buildings surrounding a central plaza, offering a mix of restaurants, retail stores, and recreational facilities on a sprawling 7.5-acre site at the intersection of Kirk Road and Route 64. Groundbreaking took place in November 2024, with the first businesses anticipated to open by September.

Among the exciting tenants joining Montauk Pickleball Club are Fire and Wine, a concept from BG Hospitality Group, Taco Mucho, Rosebud Steakhouse, and a sports bar and brewery. The pickleball facility is expected to welcome its first guests by March 2026, promising a lively addition to the St. Charles community.

As renovations continue at Whole Foods and construction progresses at Fox Haven Square, residents are eager to see how these developments will enhance the local landscape and provide new dining and recreational options. With both projects on track, St. Charles is poised for a vibrant summer ahead.
