GUSTINE—Community Unites for Pickleball Tournament to Support Valley Children’s Hospital

On May 31, Harry P. Schmidt Park will transform into a vibrant hub of activity as community members gather for "Pickleball for a Cause," a spirited tournament organized by Gustine native Daniel Gomes. This event aims to raise funds for Valley Children’s Hospital, a vital healthcare provider for children across the Central Valley.

Gomes, a junior at Fresno State University majoring in Agriculture Education, launched this initiative as a heartfelt way to give back to the town that nurtured him. Alongside his friends, he envisioned the tournament as an opportunity to unite the community for a meaningful purpose.

“We chose to support Valley Children’s Healthcare because of the incredible work they do for kids and families across the Central Valley,” Gomes expressed. “Their dedication to providing top-quality care, no matter the circumstances, really inspired us, and we knew we wanted to rally our town around such an important cause.”

Valley Children’s Hospital, located in Madera, stands as one of California’s largest pediatric healthcare providers, serving approximately 1.3 million children in the region. The hospital specializes in critical areas such as oncology, neurology, cardiology, and orthopedics, and boasts the only Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the Central Valley. Additionally, it operates the region’s largest ACS-verified Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, delivering life-saving emergency care to critically injured children.

The tournament promises an exciting day filled with pickleball matches, delicious food, live music, and family-friendly activities. While registration for players has closed, community members are warmly invited to come out, cheer on the participants, and enjoy offerings from local food vendors, including favorites like Yogurt Mill, Live Better Acai Bowls, Antojitos Bros, J&M Mini Pancakes, Woody’s Hawaiian BBQ, and El Azteco.

All proceeds from the tournament will directly benefit Valley Children’s Hospital, ensuring that families in need continue to have access to expert pediatric care.

“Can’t wait to see everyone on May 31st,” Gomes said enthusiastically. “Let’s have fun, make memories, and support a great cause together!”

Join the community in this exciting event that not only celebrates the spirit of togetherness but also champions the health and well-being of children in the Central Valley.
