Shannon Pretorious Wins First Title on Tour: The APP Women’s Open Recap
Shannon Pretorius made history this past weekend as she emerged victorious in the Women’s Pro Singles event at the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) Women’s Open in Columbus, Ohio. The tournament brought together 250 women, both amateurs and pros, for a weekend dedicated to celebrating women’s players in pickleball.
The competition was fierce, with top players like Fudge, Jardim, Barr, and Hendry all vying for the title. However, it was Pretorius who ultimately came out on top, defeating Domenika Turkovic in the final to secure her first-ever singles title on tour. The match was a thrilling three-game battle, with Pretorius ultimately prevailing 6,(14),10 to claim the gold medal.
In addition to her singles victory, Pretorius also made her mark in the Women’s Pro Doubles event, teaming up with Jill Braverman to secure the title. The pair cruised through the competition, culminating in a 9,4 victory in the final.
But the excitement didn’t stop there. In the Women’s Pro Doubles Split-Age event, Pretorius teamed up with Susannah Barr to upset the top-seeded pair of Megan Fudge and Angela Simon, claiming yet another gold medal for the weekend.
