“CommuniCare Classic Pickleball Tournament Raises Funds for San Antonio Scholarships”
The third annual CommuniCare Classic is making a splash in San Antonio this weekend as it combines the sport of pickleball with a purpose. Hosted by the Valero Alamo Bowl and the San Antonio Pickleball Association, this event is not just about competition, but also about giving back to the community.
With all proceeds from the weekend going towards scholarships for San Antonio students, the tournament has drawn in 400 players for a three-day competition at Fairchild Park. Last year, 320 pickleball players participated, showing the growing popularity of the sport in the area.
San Antonio Pickleball Association president Cindy Waddell expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “The growth has just gone crazy. You’ll have tons of vendors here, tons of players, tons of spectators.”
The tournament features a variety of divisions, including men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Additionally, a PartyPICKLE round-robin style tournament adds a fun and social element to the competition.
Not only is the event a great opportunity for pickleball enthusiasts to showcase their skills, but it also serves as a platform to support local students through scholarship programs. Rick Hill, the vice president of marketing with the Valero Alamo Bowl, emphasized the importance of giving back, stating, “100% of the proceeds are going right back to scholarships.”
If you’re in the San Antonio area and looking to join in on the pickleball fun, head over to Fairchild Park located at 1214 East Crockett Street. With the tournament running until Sunday, there’s still plenty of time to catch the action and support a great cause.
