The Rise of Pickleball in Delaware: A Trend Here to Stay

Title: Pickleball Craze Sweeps Delaware with New Facilities and Investments

In the midst of a global pandemic, certain trends have emerged and solidified their place in society. QR code menus, al fresco dining, remote working, and pickleball are among these trends that have proven to be more than passing fads.

The American Association of Pickleball, founded 20 years ago, has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, with millions of dollars being invested in courts and a resurgence in post-pandemic play. Delaware is no exception, with millions set aside in past budget meetings to build new courts and the opening of three multimillion-dollar indoor facilities in New Castle County this year.

One of these facilities, Dill Dinkers, is set to open in Newport in mid- to late February. Run by the brother-sister duo Lauren and James Cassady, Dill Dinkers will feature 10 pickleball courts, including two championship-sized courts equipped with PlaySight technology for online coaching and evaluation. The facility will also offer pickleball clinics, competitive leagues, a pro shop, and space for other family-friendly games.

Dill Dinkers is just one of three major pickleball facilities opening in New Castle County this year. The Picklr in Newark and Bounce Pickleball in Wilmington are also set to open their doors, further solidifying Delaware’s reputation as a pickleball hotspot.

The rise of pickleball in Delaware has been met with enthusiasm, with investments in new courts and programs targeted towards youth. The sport’s accessibility, social nature, and health benefits have contributed to its popularity, making it a favorite among players of all ages.

As pickleball continues to gain momentum in Delaware, it’s clear that this once niche sport has found a permanent place in the hearts of many. With new facilities, investments, and programs on the horizon, the pickleball craze shows no signs of slowing down.
