The OCO Pickleball Tournament – Sakura Classic: Registration, Details, and Impact

The OCO Pickleball Tournament – Sakura Classic is set to take place in Tustin, California, on April 5-6, 2025. This exciting event will feature a round-robin format and is open to players aged 60 and over on April 5, and those aged 59 and under on April 6. Registration for the tournament opens on February 17 and closes on March 16, 2025.

Participants in the tournament for those 60 and older on April 5 will compete in Women’s Doubles (3.0 & 3.5), Men’s Doubles (3.0, 3.5 & 4.0), and Mixed Doubles (3.0, 3.5 & 4.0). A unique addition this year is the 72+ rotating partner event, where 3.5 women and 3.5 men can sign up without a fixed partner, using a scramble format.

On April 6, the tournament will continue for those 59 and under, featuring the same categories of Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Participants will need to find a fixed partner for this day of the tournament, with medals being awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division.

The registration fee for one event is $45, which includes a $25 registration fee. Participants can add a second event for an additional $20, bringing the total cost for two events to $65. Registration ends on March 16, and players will have seven days to find a partner after signing up. USAPA-approved paddles will be required for the tournament.

The Sakura Classic will be held at Tustin Pickleball, located at 1302 Service Road, Tustin, California. There is no parking fee, and participants can park on the street or in nearby small parking lots.

This tournament not only provides a fun and competitive opportunity for pickleball players but also supports a good cause. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Orange Coast Optimist (OCO), a non-profit organization that focuses on youth leadership and cultural awareness through sports and cultural events. The tournament is expected to attract a diverse range of participants and create an exciting atmosphere for all involved.
