Encinitas Pickleball Club Faces Noise Complaints, Plans Sound Barriers and Quiet Paddles

Posted In:

The Bobby Riggs Racket and Paddle Club in Encinitas has become a focal point of contention due to noise complaints from nearby residents and businesses, stemming from the loud sounds of pickleball games, including paddle hits, shouting, and music. While supporters emphasize the club’s significant contribution to community health and fitness, opponents argue that the noise disrupts their quality of life and accuse the operator of prioritizing profit over neighborhood concerns. The issue was brought before the Encinitas City Council, where both sides voiced their perspectives.

In response, the club’s operator, Steve Dawson, expressed gratitude for community support and outlined steps to address the noise problem. He announced the distribution of 96 quiet-play paddles to reduce sound temporarily and plans to install sound barriers within 90 days, aiming for full compliance with city regulations. Dawson encouraged players to voluntarily use the quieter paddles until the barriers are in place, demonstrating a cooperative effort to balance the club’s activities with neighborhood peace.
