Eagle’s Nest Athletic Center Opens Its Doors: A New Era for Erie’s Youth

Erie, PA – May 30, 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of community and opportunity, local dignitaries gathered today to officially open the Eagle’s Nest Athletic Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to youth development and wellness. The grand opening, marked by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, signifies a major investment in Erie’s future, particularly for its younger residents.

The Eagle’s Nest Athletic Center, a transformative $3.4 million project, is located at 1129 Pennsylvania Avenue, adjacent to the Eagle’s Nest School of Academic Distinction. Funded in part by the American Rescue Plan (ARP) through the City of Erie, along with additional public and private contributions, the center aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth engagement in sports and wellness activities.

Designed to cater to a variety of athletic pursuits, the 10,000-square-foot facility will offer structured training and recreational opportunities in basketball, volleyball, wrestling, pickleball, and more. This initiative is particularly crucial for underserved neighborhoods, where access to safe spaces for physical activity and mentorship is often limited.

“Centers like the Eagle’s Nest are vital for our community,” said Bishop Dwane Brock during the opening ceremony. “They provide not just a place to play, but a foundation for leadership and personal growth. We are empowering our youth to reach their full potential.”

The event drew a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, including Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, who joined Bishop Brock in cutting the ribbon, symbolizing a new chapter for Erie’s youth. Two students from the Eagle’s Nest program held the ribbon, representing the very future the center aims to nurture.

“This facility is more than just a building; it’s a beacon of hope and opportunity,” said Michael Hooks, Athletic Director at the center. “We are committed to fostering an environment where young people can thrive, both on and off the field.”

As the community looks forward to the programs and activities that will unfold within its walls, the Eagle’s Nest Athletic Center stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and investment in the next generation. With its doors now open, the center is poised to become a cornerstone of youth development and community wellness in Erie.
