Roberts and Wormald Make Competitive Debut at 2024 Skechers English Nationals
Roberts and Wormald, two pickleball enthusiasts from south-west Leicestershire, recently made their competitive debut at the 2024 Skechers English Nationals, showcasing their newfound love for the sport. Despite only picking up pickleball this year, the pair were eager to test their skills against the best players in England.
The sport of pickleball, a fast-growing racket sport played with paddles and a plastic ball, has captured the hearts of players of all ages and abilities. With its origins dating back to 1965 in the United States, pickleball has become a popular pastime for families and individuals alike.
The English Nationals, held at Bolton Arena from October 31 to November 3, attracted a record-breaking 1,111 players, including Roberts and Wormald. The tournament provided four days of high-level competition, showcasing the growing popularity of pickleball in England.
Wormald expressed her love for the sport, highlighting its inclusivity and appeal to players of all ages. She mentioned that even her nine-year-old son has taken a liking to pickleball, emphasizing the sport’s ability to bring people together on the court.
