Tennis and celebrities often come together, but the Desert Smash is the ultimate collaboration between Hollywood and the sport of tennis. Established two decades ago, the event brings together the best of tennis, Hollywood, and the world of music.
Right before Indian Wells, Hollywood meets tennis for an exciting crossover at the Desert Smash. This year marks a special edition of the event, celebrating two decades of the Desert Slam. The 20th anniversary will see Charlize Theron host the event, as celebrities from Hollywood and the tennis world pour into the La Quinta Resort in California.
Apart from Charlize Theron, Grand Slam champions Stan Wawrinka and Victoria Azarenka will be present. Alycia Parks, Frances Tiafoe, Nick Kyrgios, Donna Vekic, and more tennis pros will join them.
What makes the event particularly important is the causes it supports. It is not just a celebrity tennis event, but a charity celebrity tennis event. The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project works with Desert Slam to raise funds for South African youth, with a big focus on preventing HIV.
The 20th anniversary Desert Slam takes place on 4th and 5th March, ahead of Indian Wells 2024. The schedule of events includes a private clinic, a panel discussion on the growth of pickleball, and the Desert Smash Celebrity Pickleball Challenge presented by Smirnoff Smash.
On Tuesday, March 5th, the Desert Smash gates will open to the public, with a sponsor village and the 20th Annual Desert Smash Celebrity + Pro Tennis Matches taking place. The event will feature a WTA Women’s Singles Match, Celebrity + Pro Doubles Matches, and an ATP Men’s Singles Match.
The celebrity tennis exhibition, the marquee event, will include a women’s singles match, doubles matches with pros teaming up with celebrities, and a men’s singles tie to conclude the event. The matches will take place at Zenyara, a private estate about 12 minutes away from La Quinta Resort & Club.
The Desert Smash is not just a glamorous event where Hollywood and tennis collide, but also a platform to support important causes and make a positive impact on the world.
