The Delaware Tourism Office has awarded over $11 million in grants from the Sports Tourism Capital Investment Fund to four sports facilities across the state, aiming to boost sports tourism and local economic growth. Wilmington Sports, LLC received $6 million to build a new indoor track facility next to Wilmington’s Chase Fieldhouse, while DE Turf in Frederica was granted $3 million to expand stadium seating and add a tournament facility. Additionally, STATS Tournaments in Bear got $300,000 to install stadium lights and build new baseball and softball fields, and Midway Motion & Fitness in Rehoboth secured $2 million to develop a sanctioned pickleball complex with both indoor and outdoor courts.

These investments target both new and existing venues to attract out-of-state visitors year-round, enhancing Delaware’s competitiveness in hosting regional and national sports events. According to Jessica Welch, director of the Delaware Tourism Office, the pickleball facility is a unique addition for the state and surrounding region, while the indoor track project also promises to bring distinctive events. The fund supports facilities that contribute significantly to the state economy by drawing thousands of visitors and generating millions in revenue, with 18 venues applying for a total of $54 million in funding.
