Sunshine Beach Surf Club Shines at The Shaw and Partners Shannon Eckstien Classic

Noosa District High School in Cooroy is set to host the biggest single day boxing tournament ever this Saturday, with 200 boxers competing in 100 bouts across two rings from 10am to 8pm. International competitors from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Nauru will also be participating in the Sunshine Coast Regional Championships.

Under the guidance of Impact Boxing Club head coach Mark Evans, the event has grown from a small 20 bout fight card to a record-breaking tournament, showcasing the growth of the sport and the community. All goods purchased for the event come from local businesses, highlighting the support from the community.

Coach Evans, who recently earned his Gold Coaching Accreditation, attended an intensive training camp at the AIS Canberra to prepare high-performance athletes for an upcoming competition in America. The team emerged in top form, ready to take on the challenges ahead.

In other sporting news, the Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club made history by winning their first medal in the prestigious Open Taplin Relay at Northcliffe. The team, consisting of Electra Outram, Gemma Welch-Smith, Freya Wilson, Darcy Lewis, Dylan Wilson, and Zale Outram, beat out reigning Australian Champions Burleigh Heads and Maroochydore, proving themselves as a club to watch in the surf sports division.

Coach Wes Berg expressed pride in the team’s hard work and positive attitude throughout the season, noting their consistency and promising results leading up to the Australian Championships. Younger competitors are also ready to shine, with several members looking to reproduce their success in upcoming races.

Additionally, the Noosa Pickleball Club excelled in the Sunshine Pickleball Championships, with several members earning medals in various categories. The club continues to grow and excel in the fastest growing sport in the world.

Noosa Athletics also had a successful run at the Queensland Athletics Championships, with nine club members qualifying for the Queensland team for the upcoming Australian Championships in Perth. Head Coach Mick Hooper commended the athletes for their outstanding performances and wished them luck in their preparation for the Nationals.
