Big Dill Pickleball Tournament Raises Nearly $10,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest

LEOMINSTER – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest started off the New Year with a bang, hosting ‘The Big Dill Pickleball Tournament’ fundraiser that raised nearly $10,000 for local youth mentorship programs.

The event, held on Jan. 4, also marked the grand opening celebration for the Pickle-It Pickleball Club located at 471 Lancaster St. A total of 80 participants, including both experienced pickleball players and newcomers, came together for a friendly competition in support of a great cause.

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new Pickle-It Club in Leominster,” said owner Valerie Housser. “Raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest was the perfect way to introduce our club to the community. It’s a win-win situation, and we are proud to support such a wonderful organization.”

The tournament coincided with the city officially declaring Jan. 4 as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest Day, recognizing the importance of mentorship and the impactful work of the organization in the community. Mayor Dean Mazzarella presented a proclamation emphasizing the crucial role mentorship plays in shaping the lives of young people and the significance of volunteers who provide valuable relationships for local youth.

“We are honored by the City of Leominster’s recognition and grateful for their continued support,” said CEO Connie Askin. “This proclamation not only highlights the importance of mentorship but also raises awareness about the opportunities we offer to create positive change for youth in our community.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest aims to provide one-to-one mentoring relationships that empower youth and help them reach their full potential. These relationships support the social and emotional development needed for youth to thrive and build brighter futures.
