Recap of the APP Cayman Open 2025 Tournament
The APP Cayman Open 2025 took place this past weekend in the beautiful Cayman Islands, where top pickleball players from around the world gathered for a weekend of competition and fun. The event, held at the brand new 24-court Pickleball Cayman facility just outside George Town, saw over 240 players participate in various draws.
In the Men’s Open Singles division, former UCLA star Max Wild made an impressive run to the final but was ultimately defeated by veteran player Riley DeHeart. DeHeart claimed the gold medal, with Wild taking silver and Richard Livornese Jr. securing the bronze.
The Women’s Open Singles division saw Judit Castillo emerge victorious after defeating top seed Yana Newell in the final. Castillo’s win was a highlight of the event, with Newell taking silver and Nicole Pitts earning the bronze medal.
In the Mixed Open Doubles draw, Bobbi Oshiro and Richard Livornese teamed up to take down the No. 1 seeds and claim the gold medal. The duo’s victory was a thrilling moment in the competition, with Megan Fudge & Jack Munro settling for silver and Newell/Kawka securing the bronze.
The Men’s and Women’s Open Doubles divisions also saw intense competition, with Richard Livornese and Jack Munro, as well as Bobbi Oshiro & Judit Castillo, taking home the gold medals in their respective categories.
Local pros also had a chance to showcase their skills against the traveling APP pros, with notable finishes by Michael Carse, Dana Karani, and Steve Thompson in the various divisions.
Looking ahead, the pickleball calendar is packed with upcoming events, including the PPA Red Rock pro stop, the APP Collegiates event at Cape Coral, a USAP golden ticket event in Tucson, and a PPA challenger event in Columbia, South Carolina. Despite the recent cancellation of the PWR schedule, the pickleball community remains active and excited for the upcoming competitions.
