UP BJP to Hold OBC Conventions for School and College Students Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls
The Uttar Pradesh BJP has made a strategic move to connect with OBC youths by organizing conventions for school and college students in the state. This decision comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, with the aim of tapping into the potential voter base among backward class communities.
The group-specific youth meets, a first in the state’s recent political landscape, will see the appointment of conveners at various levels to oversee the organization of these conventions. The focus will be on educating OBC students about state and central government schemes, as well as highlighting the global impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
OBC morcha vice-president Chiranjeev Chaurasia emphasized that the conventions will aim to instill a sense of nationalism among youths from backward sections. However, this move has sparked criticism from the opposition, with the Samajwadi Party spokesperson Sunil Singh Sajan calling it a display of BJP’s “double standards” and an attempt to sow division in society.
The opposition has pointed out the contradiction between BJP’s actions and Prime Minister Modi’s narrative of a casteless society, accusing the ruling party of promoting caste-based politics. Despite these criticisms, BJP has a history of organizing OBC conventions in previous elections, indicating a continued focus on consolidating support from these communities.
The draft note of BJP also outlines plans to unite sub-castes with significant populations in each district, emphasizing the importance of this strategy for the party’s interests. As the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh heats up ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the OBC conventions are set to play a crucial role in BJP’s outreach efforts to secure the support of backward class youths.
