Bermuda’s Athletes Shine at Inaugural Pickleball World Cup
Bermuda’s athletes have made their mark on the international stage, claiming an impressive haul of medals at the inaugural Pickleball World Cup in Lima, Peru. The island’s athletes brought home a total of 15 medals, including seven gold, three silver, and five bronze.
In the Open Division, Imani Phillips and Melisa Judd secured gold in the Women’s Doubles Skill [3.5], while Gavin Manders and Benjamin Jones took home gold in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.5]. Alvaro Triana and Jaden Jones also impressed, winning bronze in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.0]. Phillips and Manders added to their medal count with a silver and bronze, respectively, in the Women’s Singles Skill [3.5] and Men’s Singles Skill [4.5].
In the Senior Division [50 and above], Christine Todd and Victoria Powell claimed bronze in the Women’s Doubles Skill [4.0], while Sarah Fox and Val Stevenson secured silver in the Women’s Doubles Skill [3.0]. Michael Way and Stuart Smith took home gold in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.5], with Mark Cordeiro and George Thomas grabbing bronze in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.0]. The mixed doubles events also saw success for Bermuda, with Tori Powell and Cordeiro winning silver in the Mixed Doubles Skill [4.0], and Stevenson and Smith claiming gold in the same category. Kiernan Bell and André Loustalot of Chile captured gold in the Mixed Doubles Skill [3.0].
In the Junior Division [Under-18], Jaden Jones and Kai Manders showcased their talent, with Jones winning gold in the Boys Doubles Age [13 to 18] and bronze in the Boys Singles [13 to 18], and Manders claiming gold in the Kids Singles.
The World Cup, held over two days, saw Bermuda reach the quarter-finals of the Senior Division and the Round of 16 in the Open Division. The island’s athletes have proven themselves as formidable competitors on the global pickleball stage, bringing home a collection of well-deserved medals.
