Nicholas Wade, a 27-year-old athlete from Essex, experienced a seizure in his sleep that led to the discovery of a benign glioneuronal brain tumour, which had likely been present since birth. After undergoing a successful four-hour operation to remove the tumour, Nicholas faced a challenging recovery, including relearning basic skills like walking and feeding himself due to the tumour’s location in his right frontal lobe. Despite the physical and mental hurdles, he has since returned to his passion for pickleball and is determined to become the world’s best player in the sport.
Nicholas’s journey highlights the significant impact brain tumours can have on both physical abilities and mental health, as well as the stigma surrounding recovery and achievement post-surgery. He aims to change perceptions by serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others facing similar challenges. The Brain Tumour Charity has welcomed Nicholas as a high-profile influencer to help raise awareness and support for those affected by brain tumours.
