NC Assistive Technology Program Hosts Adaptive Recreation and Gaming Resource Fair in Winston-Salem
The NC Assistive Technology Program (ATP) recently partnered with Solutions for Independence to host its first-ever Adaptive Recreation and Gaming Resource Fair in Winston-Salem. The event, part of the AT Pop-Up series, attracted over 185 attendees who had the opportunity to try out accessible recreational and adaptive gaming equipment.
From biking and archery to pickleball, golf, and video games with accessible controllers, participants were able to engage in various activities that catered to their individual needs. NC ATP Program Director Tammy D. Koger expressed excitement about hosting interactive and accessible gaming and recreation options for individuals across the state.
Assistive Technology plays a crucial role in enabling people with disabilities and those facing challenges associated with aging to actively participate in community life, including sports and recreational activities. The partnership with Solutions for Independence provided attendees with the chance to enhance their knowledge and skills in using adaptive sports and gaming equipment.
Volunteer students from High Point University and Winston-Salem State University were present to assist participants and facilitate the event. The success of the Adaptive Recreation and Gaming Resource Fair has paved the way for upcoming AT Pop-Up events in Wilmington and Sanford in the Spring of 2023.
