Inaugural Back2School Youth Pickleball Scramble a Success at Gregg Park Civic Center

The Southern Pickleball Academy hosted a thrilling and successful inaugural Back2School Youth Pickleball Scramble at the Gregg Park Civic Center on Aug. 24. The event brought together youth ages 10 to 18 from all over the CSRA and the Midlands for a day of intense competition and fun.

The tournament, which featured players showcasing their skills on the court, also emphasized the importance of sportsmanship. An exhibition match before the competition began set the tone for the day, with young players Rolene Roux, Dylan Fahrbach, Drew Fahrbach, and Ellie Fahrbach demonstrating not only their advanced abilities but also their exemplary sportsmanship.

Bob Fogle, assistant tournament director, highlighted the rarity of junior-only pickleball tournaments in the Southeast, making this event a unique opportunity for young players to test their skills and gain valuable experience. The Southern Pickleball Academy has been at the forefront of promoting youth pickleball tournaments in the region, hosting two junior tournaments in Aiken County this year alone.

Participants had the chance to win prizes donated by sponsors, with Ava Woiczechowski walking away with a new pickleball paddle from Revolin Sports. The gold medal matches were officiated by Davion Bellinger, providing players with a true tournament experience.

Tournament Director Kiss Gunther emphasized the importance of youth events in helping kids develop their skills, gain confidence, and most importantly, have fun. Kim Woiczechowski, whose children participated in the tournament, praised the event for its organization and the opportunity it provided for kids to compete and learn from skilled players.

Pickleball has become a popular activity for families and teenagers alike, offering a fun way to stay active, socialize, and engage with others. The Back2School Scramble showcased the competitive spirit and camaraderie of the sport, with winners in different age brackets celebrating their achievements on the court.

Overall, the inaugural Back2School Youth Pickleball Scramble was a resounding success, bringing together young players from diverse backgrounds to enjoy a day of competition, sportsmanship, and camaraderie on the pickleball court.
