Exciting Upgrades Coming to Christensen Park in Abbotsford
Exciting upgrades are on the horizon for Christensen Park in Abbotsford, as new playground equipment and pickleball courts are set to be installed thanks to generous donations from the Christensen Foundation. The city council recently approved the purchases recommended by the foundation, totaling $120,000 in donations for park upgrades.
City administrator Josh Soyk shared that the foundation recommended playground equipment from Lee Recreation, including a swing set, jungle gym, slides, climbing structure, and benches, with a total cost of $75,000. Additionally, the city has budgeted $50,000 for park upgrades, which will also include the installation of two pickleball courts and additional sidewalks.
The council voted to match the colors of the new pickleball courts with existing ones in the city, ensuring a cohesive look. The courts will be strategically placed to prevent players from being blinded by sunlight while playing. A proposal for a chain link fence around the courts was also approved, with plans for installation in the near future.
The playground equipment is expected to arrive in 10 to 11 weeks, with plans to have it installed by June or July. The pickleball courts are scheduled for installation in June, providing residents with new recreational opportunities in the park.
In addition to the park upgrades, the council also approved contracts for other projects in the city, including a Community Development Block Grant application and the purchase of a new ambulance for the Central Fire & EMS District. The council is also preparing for the city’s annual Fourth of July celebration, with plans for an impressive fireworks display.
Overall, the future looks bright for Christensen Park and the community of Abbotsford, with exciting improvements on the horizon for residents to enjoy.
