“Coach Kaz: Transforming Lives and Youth Pickleball at Riverbrook YMCA”
Riverbrook Regional YMCA’s Wilton Family Y Branch Faces $4.2 Million in Flood Damage, Launches Fundraising Campaign
Last year’s historic floods left the Riverbrook Regional YMCA’s Wilton Family Y Branch with long-term damage estimated at upwards of $4.2 million. The YMCA has been a vital part of the Wilton community for over 50 years, supporting individuals of all ages and backgrounds. In an effort to restore, rebuild, and recover, the YMCA has launched a "Restore Rebuild Recover" Flood Relief fundraising campaign.
One individual who has been instrumental in the YMCA community is Mike Kazlauskas, also known as "Coach Kaz." From his early days as a summer camp counselor to his current role as Senior Camp and Sports Director, Coach Kaz has transformed lives and found a passion for youth pickleball.
In a recent interview, Coach Kaz shared his insights on the importance of sports in Wilton, the impact of the YMCA on his life, and the value of giving back through volunteering. He highlighted the popularity of football, basketball, cheerleading, pickleball, and paddle sports in the community.
Coach Kaz emphasized the positive impact of afterschool programs, noting the importance of providing a safe and social environment for children to learn and grow. He shared heartwarming stories of children who have found a second home at the YMCA and the joy of making a difference in their lives.
Reflecting on his own journey, Coach Kaz credited a DARE officer from his childhood for inspiring him to pursue a career in helping others. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities he has had to work with children and parents, offering guidance and support in times of need.
As the YMCA continues its efforts to rebuild after the devastating floods, Coach Kaz and the entire community are rallying together to support their beloved institution. Through donations and volunteer efforts, they hope to restore the YMCA to its former glory and continue making a positive impact on the lives of those in Wilton.
